| Description: | IHTSDO Summer Conference - (Monday June 30th - Thursday July 3rd) The IHTSDO will be holding its "2008 Summer Conference" in Birmingham, England from Monday June 30th - Thursday July 3rd. The event will be hosted by the UK Terminology Centre (UKTC). The conference will encompass a mixture of working group and project group sessions. Further details including timings and papers for each session will be made available shortly to delegates who book onto this event. The conference which will bring together members of the IHTSDO, National Release Centres and potential future members, aims to progress the quality and development of SNOMED Clinical Terms, to discuss the enhanced release format and to look at better working practice in a volunteer community. SNOMED CT and Interoperable Healthcare event - (Wednesday 2nd July) As part of the Summer Conference, NHS Connecting for Health, through the UK Terminology Centre will be running a one day conference titled "SNOMED CT and Interoperable Healthcare" The SNOMED CT and Interoperable Healthcare event will bring together healthcare and IT professionals in the UK to explore and share experiences in the use of SNOMED CT and related standards in supporting the benefits sought from interoperability. It will enable clinicians in the UK to understand the scope and capabilities of terminology-enabled healthcare solutions, and will enable IT developers and system providers to discover the state-of-the-art terminology solutions. The one day conference will look at the importance to patient care of using SNOMED CT as part of an overall technical solution to support the delivery of health care and will provide a forum for users to consider the impacts and benefits of moving from note taking for local use to that required for a national shared electronic record. Speakers will include: - Jennifer Zelmer, Chief Executive Officer, International Health Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) - Dr Mark P Davies, National Clinical Director, NHS Connecting for Health - Dr Paul Jones, Chief Technology Officer, NHS Connecting for Health - Representatives from UK and International organisations that are already using SNOMED CT. A number of workshops will be held giving updates on a number of areas such as the creation of a common user interface will also be given and suppliers and specialist organisations will be exhibiting. Tutorials will be held prior to the conference on Tuesday 1st of July covering the relationship of the terminology with other standards such as HL7 V3 messaging and Clinical Document Architecture (CDA). Further details on these tutorials will be made available shortly. |
