Description:	Area of Interest: Clinical Noting - Noting Using Templates NHS Volunteers Roles Invited: We would like to interview 20 people who write clinical notes as part of their clinical work, e.g., doctors, nurses, pharmacists and AHPs. Volunteers will be encouraged to ask other clinicians in the same location to participate in this study. Activity: User Interviews at your place of work (approximately 1hour per person) Focus Area: Evaluation of designs for noting Using Templates. Dates: 9th - 14th September 2009 Location: A quiet office at your place of work Expenses will be reimbursed and lunch is provided. Please note that claimants can only claim travel expenses for themselves; and not on behalf of other people. More details about what CFH will/will not pay for are detailed within remuneration policy. The CUI Project Support Officer will obtain the approval signature needed in part C and forward your claim onto the Finance department. Please note that claim form can only be accepted for expenses covering one person only, and receipts and bills etc should reflect this also. Expenses claim forms that detail expenses for more than one person will not be accepted, and this includes receipts and bill etc.

Background information

Clinical Applications and Patient Safety (CAPS) Project

NHS Connecting for Health are undertaking a project of work to support an increase in the level of consistency seen in use of the clinical information systems available between NHS locations/trusts. It also intends to better enable the NHS to fully realise the benefits of some of the enterprise-wide agreements currently in place with NHS suppliers.

This project is known as the Clinical Applications and Patient Safety (CAPS) Project, and forms part of a larger programme of work called the Common User Interface (CUI) Programme.

A crucial part of this work involves gathering information and observations from front-line NHS staff. As such, the Project is looking for volunteers to take part in observations, interviews and workshops which will provide NHS professionals the opportunity to be involved in the shaping of clinical systems design guidance and potential design standards and contributing to long term efforts to increase patient safety and further reduce hazards from the differences between clinical information systems.

This will also provide volunteers the opportunity to gain an insight into the CAPS Project and the overall CUI programme, its aims, objectives and outputs, and influence these outputs prior to them being published for use in the wider NHS.

Volunteers do not need to have an interest in or aptitude with computers. We are looking for a range of experience, and therefore also encourage the nomination of more junior clinical staff to attend these sessions.
